Overall, this set has a very good picture but there are better. It has a sleep setting but not a wake or alarm setting so luckily my cable box does that job. I would recommend it based on price, decent picture and size.

"great features but wrong direction for vizio" 2009-12-18
By Jeffery W. Daniels
i have this tv. i just recieved it about 2 days ago. decent picture. although through dish network hd the vizio 47" sv470m handles motion blur much better. this 120 hz tv just doesn't handle fast moving objects very well. seeing that this brand is really pushing that feature on this model makes me wonder which way vizio is heading. also, on 720 you if you watch in normal screen mode, your 47 inch tv is has about 6" black borders all around tv. you can zoom to full screen mode and this fixes it. the hdmi interface seems to be glitchy at times. blu ray also is not as good. i tested on transformers 2. the scene where optimus fights all the deceptacons . the fast paced action on thr transformers was okay but the background appeared blurry at times. once again, on the vizio 47" sv470m (lower cheaper model)it was much better. this tv has poor black levels but the overal picture is decent. i have owned quite a few lcd and plasma tv's and this tv is a good buy only if you pay under 1000$. this tv is suppose to be better than the sv470m. they are both 120hz tv. but the lack of cinema mode one the vt470m stinks. overall experience with the lower model was much better.

You pay $220 for a Tv (That is how much I paid at Costco) and you expect a space Shuttle. Who cares if it takes 3 seconds for the channel to change. If you are that busy and do not have 3 seconds, you shouldn't be watching Tv to begin with. Good Night and Good Luck.

 "Do Not Bother!" 2010-01-13
By C. M. Ramsey (Tyler, TX)
I bought the Vizio Razor to replace our 13" Sony in our kitchen. After looking at several different TV's I decided to buy the Vizio Razor. The picture was very good, and I had heard that Vizio was a good brand. The problems started shortly after I got it hooked up and turned on. After being on for about 2 minutes it went to a blue screen with a message of "No Signal". I tried another TV in the house and the signal was fine. After playing with the menu features I was finally able to get the picture back. This happened again later that evening, and I was again able to get the picture back after going into the menu feature. Then it happened again the next day, but I could not ever get the blue screen to go away this time. What little time it did work correctly I found 2 annoying problems. The sound quality was very poor. It sounded like it was coming out of a tin can. Also the remote would only work if you were standing directly in front of the TV. Needless to say I took it back to the store for a refund yesterday and will not be buying another Vizio. It's a shame because it is a good looking TV with a great picture.

 "Vizio 19" LCD LED" 2010-01-05
By VideoEditor (Washington,DC)
1. Vizio on screen controls lower left, keep popping up, stay 15-30 seconds on

screen, then pop off screen for 1-5 seconds, then just keeps repeating.

This activity is inconsistant, seems to be triggered when using exit

button. Also, the exit button does not clear this control but it eventual

stops, only to return when turning TV back on.

2. all channels above 100 have extensions, ie 101-2311, 102-49,102-5011 etc.

does not recognize the cable designations and cannot have name assigned to

3. 3 second channel change exccesive

4. no ability to create favorites menu for quick access to channel

5. cannot enter channels above 99 on remote

6. this is first remote i've used that does not have a designated "menu" button.

Using "OK" to access menus is annoying and confusing. put Menu and Exit

buttons just under the OK cross, better for true one hand operation

7. I know the TV is a Vizio, i don't need the Vizio LOGO for 5 seconds at turn

on.

While the HD picture is perfect, having great video on a kitchen TV just

isn't worth the irritation factor This is a return, unless Vizio has a

firmware upgrade that is easily installed and that solves these problems

"Great HD picture, problematic TV tuner" 2010-01-03
By Gerry in Texas
I agree with the other reviews, but would add a warning about the TV tuner.

On the plus side, the 720p and 1080i HD picture quality is amazing, very bright and sharp with good contrast. The sound is perhaps the best I've ever heard from a low end TV, with more volume than I could ever use. I haven't had a chance to try the digital photo frame feature or the pause live TV feature, but they are both nice to have if they work as advertised. The remote control allows you to access all features.

However, I will be returning the set because of problems with the TV tuner. As I read on another web site, the tuner is annoyingly slow when changing channels. Each time you use channel up or channel down the screen goes blue for about 2 seconds, and sometimes 3 before the new channel is displayed. If you jump to a channel by entering the number from the remote's keypad you will stare at the blue screen for 4 to 5 seconds.

If slow channel changes were the only problem I would just learn to live with it due to the amazing HD picture and sound. Unfortunately there are two other tuner problems, one of which is a too much for me.

First, there is a minor issue where if you punch in a non-existent channel number by accident the input buffer is not cleared until some period of time well after the unit has gone back to displaying the current channel number. I.e., you punch in a wrong number, the unit eventually reverts to displaying the current number, but then when you try to enter a correct number again the digits from the previous attempt are still in the input buffer and they get added to the new number you are trying to enter. You end up having to just sit and wait for some period of time (10 - 20 seconds) before you can enter a new channel number.

I suppose I could also learn to live with that. But what I can't live with is a completely broken 'last' feature. On the VM190XVT they should call this feature the 'Las Vegas' button because when you press it you are just rolling the dice and you have no way of knowing which previous channel it will revert to.

I've spent around 2 hours trying to figure out how to beat this error. At first I thought 'last' worked correctly for channels you went to by using the channel up/channel down buttons, but not for direct entry. This wasn't true. Then I thought it was related to the period of time between channel changes. Perhaps if I left each channel selected for some minimum period of time between changes I could get the feature to work. Not true. Then I tried direct channel entry only, both with me triggering the channel change by pressing 'Ok', and with the TV deciding when it was time to jump to the new channel. Still broken. Then I thought perhaps it had problems with 'dash' channels, like '13-1', but not with base channels like '13', so I tried base channels only. Made no difference. Over a long period of time I tried many combinations of all of the above. Nothing worked reliably. 'Last' will sometimes revert to the most recent previous channel, but most of the time it doesn't. It will also become stuck on a channel for no obvious reason. It then stays stuck until you select a new channel while viewing the stuck channel. Weird.

I would be interested to hear about other people's experience with 'last' on the VM190VXT. I don't know if this is a general problem, or if I just have a buggy tuner. Regardless, this unit is going back.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Update: I spent 20 minutes on the phone with Vizio tech support. It is their opinion that the problems I see are caused by a bad remote control and they offered to send a replacement. I may or may not pursue that option. I have no desire to get stuck with this unit if that doesn't fix the problem and my return window closes.

Those that are experiencing the menu pop-up problem should see if it always happens after you have used the remote. The remote could be causing the problem.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Final update: The replacement remote came in the mail today. It didn't fix anything, all problems listed above with the 'Last' feature and direct channel entry are still exactly the same. I give up, this unit has permanent problems and I am returning it for a refund before I get stuck with it.

"So close, but no cigar for Vizio..." 2010-01-02
By JustaConsumer
The Vizio VM190XVT is so close but no cigar. Amazing pictures at the price point FAR superior to the competition but Vizio fumbles the ball at the one yard line.

No STANDBY provision when used as a computer monitor. When computer goes to sleep the monitor shows a bright BLUE screen. Not energy conscious.

The power cord supplied with the Vizio VM190XVT has a BRICK to drop line current down to the low voltage this TV requires. Rather than place the brick in the middle of the power cord where it won't interfere it was placed on the end precluding it's use in many power strips, UPS units, and outlets.

No excuse for the power cord brick other than inadequate field testing prior to release and no standby mode is laughable when you claim to be GREEN.

 "Great for Me!" 2010-01-16

Use this unit with standard cable t.v. programming and TiVo service, also use it with a Wii. Set it up by myself( technically challenged female) to cable and TiVo (isues with setting it up with TiVo but that was on TiVo's end not due to the t.v.) works very well for our needs. I have this t.v. in a fairly large living area and think due to the recent addition of the wii I would have considered the 1080p unit. Have had NO issues with it in the 2 years I have owned it. User friendly and Great value!

"Surprisingly easy to use, good picture, better sound than expected" 2010-01-08
By B. Pinson (Cordova, TN)
Very easy set up. The TV is about as plug-and-play as you can find.

The overall value of this tv is great for a medium sized HD TV. The picture is great. No complaints there.

The speakers on the tv are what really surprised me. Very good quality. I tested them with the Quantum of Solace preview and it was great.

The remote is simple and has just what you need on it. Navigating the on screen tv menu is pretty easy.

We are using the stand that came with the tv and it was easy to set up. All you need is a screwdriver to instal 4 screws that connect the stand to the tv.

The only thing I don't like about the tv is a visual thing. On the front at the bottom where the speakers are. Instead of being flush and straight across, the speakers sort of invert on themselves and go in toward the back of the screen. It's not a big deal but I wish it was just clean and straight across.

The packaging was secure and the tv arrived undamaged, which is always good.

Over all I am very happy with the tv and consider it a good deal.

"Very good low-cost set, but lacks a few things" 2009-11-29
By J. McCranie (Brunswick, GA United States)
I've had this set almost a week. It has a very good picture - colors are bright. The sound with the built-in speakers is very good - one of the best I've heard. The remote control has nice rockers for the channel and volume. These feel like high-quality switches for the most-frequently used buttons and will last a long time - very impressive. It has plenty of inputs.

Its cost is low and it lacks a few things. It lacks analog sound outputs (it has neither phono jack outputs or a headphone jack), although it does have digital optical sound output. The remote control lacks a set of "favorites".

The biggest drawback is that there is no easy way to change from normal aspect to wide aspect. All other sets I've seen have a button on the R/C to easily switch between several choices. This set has only two choices (normal/wide) and you have to go through the menu to access it - very difficult. This means that if you use the normal setting to have the correct aspect ratio, some programs have black bars at the top and bottom and there is no easy way to make it fit your screen efficiently.

Inputs:

2 HDMI, the second one includes audio phono jack inputs

1 RGB PC, including 1/8" jack for the sound

2 Component

1 composite/S-video (including audio)

1 coax

Output:

1 digital optical output (SPDIF).

no headphone output jack or audio phono output jacks

"Good for watching, bad for gaming!!!" 2009-08-21
By 1Dub79 (Fairburn, Ga.)
In March, I decided to buy this HDTV at Target because it was affordable. Now, the picture was superb and had a good sound system. I loved everything, until I decided to play my PS3. One game that stood out was Madden 2009. While I was playing, I noticed the players were very blurry. Other games were not really blurry, but I figure an HDTV should have ANY blurriness, while playing. Plus, I couldn't help, but ignore the negative reviews that Vizios receive. If I pay $600 dollars for a HDTV, I better be able to get an excellent picture, while watching and gaming. I only got one out of two. Therefore, I took it back and bought a LG 37LG30 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTVfor the same price as the Vizio. I am getting exactly what I want in that HDTV and I am completely satisfied. Not to mention, the LGs have better ratings and reliability than Vizios. Overall, if you are looking for an HDTV with superb picture for watching and gaming, Vizio is not for you.

 "Vizio poor support" 2009-07-05
By Tim Obi (jacksonville, FL)
I purchased 2 directly from Vizio. They arrived 3 weeks later and one was not damaged. Their customer support division is poorly managed. I had to take a picture of the TV and e-mail it to them. It then took several days for them to get in touch with me. The TV was picked up 1 week later and after waiting nearly a month they refused to send out another TV "because it was a sale item". Instead they ignored e-mails and did not return calls. The other TV that works is average at best. I guess the old saying "you get what you paid for" is right on!! Suggest staying away from Vizio products until they learn how to take care of their customers.

"Excellent TV for an excellent price..." 2010-01-09
By S. Olson (SoCal)
Okay, so I'm not going to write 20 paragraphs on why I like this TV vs. any other one I've tried. What I will say is that TV has a beautiful picture and looks fantastic with HD content. My PS3 games in 1080p make me drool just a little...

I originally purchased this TV at Sam's Club based on the price (Amazon was higher at the time), but that was a complete nightmare that still does not have a satisfactory resolution yet - Long Story. I now own this TV via Amazon and I'm very happy with the purchase. I bought it for $1,021.00 with free shipping and not tax from Amazon and I suggest you wait to buy it if the price is higher than that and from a third party vendor. Amazon rocks! and their customer service is superior to many others I've dealt with.

The remote is solid, picture is crisp, even during faster screen activity (240 Hz), and setting the functions (audio, video) is a piece of cake. Don't get blinded by name brands like Samsung and Sony... Yes, they make quality TV's, but you can get more for you money buying a Vizio and be just as happy with the performance.

Of course after writing this positive review, my TV will burn up tomorrow and never work again...lol. I can only comment on how awesome the TV is after owning it for a week. Time will tell I suppose, but the Square Trade warranty I purchased will give me comfort just in case. =)

 "Vizio's best non-LED tv." 2009-12-10
By John Matrix
I bought this tv about a week ago and have been really pleased. I previously had a 37" sharp 720p 60hz, and did not like it at all. Well after much research I had narrowed it down the Samsung LN46B750. Only problem is that tv is $1500+ dollars. So I wanted another choice and researched and for the price and quality, this Vizio is a no brainer. This XVT is Vizio's best model other than their new 55" LED.

Appearance: It looks really nice. Simple, clean, black and silver. Some people hate that the vizio light will stay orange when the tv turns off but its not really noticeable and doesn't bother me at all.

Sound: Definitely better than my old Sharp, but still nothing to write home about. I have some really nice Logitech 2.1 speakers I use if i'm really wanting the theatre experience but the built in speakers are fine.

Picture quality: This is where I was a HUGE stickler. I wanted at least 120hz, 1080p, and 4ms response time as I'm a gamer. Well this tv has all of those and even goes to 240 with the scanning backlight. The smooth motion when enabled (recommended low) is a little jarring at first, but you quickly get used to it. Not only does smooth motion help with blur, it seems to just make the entire image on screen more crisp whether its moving or not. Very pleased. Watching Dexter on showtime hd was AMAZING! The detail in the intro is just jaw dropping. And this is only in 1080i. Xbox 360 really shows how crisp it can really get. I thought Dexter details were amazing, I hadn't seen nothing until I popped in Modern Warfare 2. Its a sight to be seen. The smooth motion works beautifully on videogames. No problems with blurring at all. Very rarely will there be any judder problems and even when you see a hiccup its for like 1 second, my wife never notices it. Hopefully getting a PS3 soon and check out blurays. But if the other content is any indication of what to expect, it will be great. I just can't imagine it getting any better. We'll see.

Cons: As with all tv's there are always some quirks. I did notice the faintest of flash lighting at the top of the screen in a tiny small area. This is a problem with MANY LCD tvs and is really only noticeable when the screen is completely black, even then its barely noticeable. I only notice it cause I set out looking for these things. Compared to the flash lighting and clouding I've seen on some tvs, this one if by far and away one of the better. DO NOT at all let this problem scare you as all tv's are different and some may not have it at all. PLUS most tvs need 50-100 hours of break in time to fully get everything warmed up so most likely it will fade. Even still my wife can't see what I'm talking about lol.

Conclusion: For the price and quality, bar none the best deal you are gonna find for a while. I was able to snag mine at SAMS for $997. 360 & PS3 users, you will not be disappointed. Will update after I've had it for a while!

UPDATE: 12/28/2009

Well I got a PS3 for christmas and got to see if blurays were any better than hd cable I had been viewing. I have to admit it looks incredible and does indeed look better. I got my wife the Harry Potter bluray collection, and we popped them in, absolutely CRYSTAL CLEAR. Sharp as can be, great colors. So yes, it did indeed get better than I thought. The tv handled the bluray beautifully with its motion and the colors looked dead on.

Also the flashlighting I mentioned earlier in my review has subsided quite a bit and I have to really set there and stare at the blank screen to even be able to see it, so that is good news as well.

Once again I 100% recommend this TV! Thanks for reading and hope I was a bit helpful in your search.

 "Fantastic Picture" 2010-01-10
By RRB (Manassas, VA)
We have had the Vizio 55" LED for several weeks now and have been thoroughly impressed. Picture quality is top notch. Everything from standard definition programming to HD programming has looked good on this TV. I had to make very few tweaks to the settings out of the box. Vizio got it right with this set. Can't say much for the audio quality. Like all audio on TVs, there is little bass and the audio just doesn't sound great. We have a home theatre setup, so the audio isn't a factor for us. It is a heavy set and it does wobble on it's base, but it seems secure enough. Haven't tried Blu-Ray with it, so cannot comment on that. It does play back media files through USB great though. Tried pictures, audio, and even video files and as long as you have the right codecs, the playback is crisp and smooth. Highly recommend this TV.

"Very nice televison, not 3D capable" 2009-12-29
By polar
TV is the best value for features and cost... Smooth motion is nice but is better on more expensive sets. Large movement breaks fluidness of frames as it appears to go stutter. This though occurs on most 240hz TV's I've seen so it isn't always perfect. The good thing, if you concerned the 240hz is not cinema looking you can disable it. I think it looks more real as movement can be as smooth as looking at real objects, but that again depends on how gradual screen movement is.

Overall a very nice television. Picture is very bright thanks to LED's. It actually lights room with colors displayed which is also specific to adaptive luminance with what areas are lit.

I like the features found in this television as well, they allow for extensible customizing... Presets are specific to inputs. So there's no need to change the settings when viewing different sources. It lets you also change those presets to how you like, (I.E. turning "movie" to have less back-light and "sports" to have high smooth motion(240hz)). It also lets obsessive types to control the ability to turn off illuminating the tech logos found on the bezel. This is interesting because the Vizio logo is just as present and lit but not controllable.

The usb device support also has some issues. Prone to locking up if you scroll through a large number of files in the same directory. It works modestly but I wouldn't settle if you need multimedia content support as prime feature. With game consoles having better media support and PC's connectible to display this feature seems superfluous. The multimedia seems only to be designed to up-sell from other sets available as the interface is very basic.

An issue with the television its not 3d ready. Nick from Vizio tech support emailed "unfortunately this will not show 3-D capability..." The TV is noted to be 120 Hz with back-light dimming to make 240hz SPS. The problem I encountered it won't support an input signal higher than 60hz refresh rate. Even trying to use the custom resolution setting will default back to 60hz. Which is a problem as 120hz is what shutter based 3d requires in order not to flicker. This is disappointing as 3d will be focus of 2010 and the set's already supposed to be achieving the refresh rate.

About a month ago our old DLP HDTV started to go out and I decided that I was tired of throwing money at the TV (expensive bulb replacements) so I decided to go with a newer but STABLE technology.

After doing a lot of research and wanting the best picture I could get with out breaking the bank, I decided on the VIZIO VF551XVT.

There are some people who will tell you to go with a Plasma because you can get a lot more TV for less money than a LCD, especially a LED Back lit TV.

Their right, except, what no one mentions is that unless you can control the light in your room where the TV will be placed you will get horrible reflections because most Plasma TV's have very glossy reflective screens.

Most (not all) LCD TV's have a matte screen and usually do much better in a standard well lit living room like mine.

Also I should mention that Plasma TV's are generally much heaver to mount and consume a great deal more electricity than this TV does.

This is Plasma TV's dirty little secret.

The VIZIO VF551XVT is a bright LED back lit TV that will work well in a totally dark or well lit room.

As for the picture, I bought a VIZIO VBR100 Blu-ray Player to go with it and the picture is stunning!

I won't go into a lot of technical details but suffice to say this TV will have all the adjustments that you need even if you want to calibrate the picture as I did.

Another poster mentioned the sound as being terrible, I don't think it's that bad? it's not an audio system it's a high end TV, most people will use a surround sound system for great sound, but not to worry the Vizio's sound is just fine for casual TV watching.

For those of you who will use the included remote it's a nice back lit multifunction remote control.

There have been some people complaining about the fact that this model is 4.961" inches thick! I have never understood the obsession with supper thin?

Yes you can get a super thin Samsung at about $500 more! that's $100 a inch to look at the TV side ways and brag to your friends? weird but OK.

As for me I have never been happier with a TV than I am now.

Got mine for $1876 at Sams Club (sorry Amazon) and I highly recommend this TV, you will not be sorry.

"One of better purchases you will make in your life..." 2010-01-20
By Scott Gardner (Utah, USA)
Before I get into the nitty gritty, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a review junkie. Sue me. So when I know I want something like a new HDTV I research high and low to not only find the best price, but I also want pretty darn close to the best product out there on the market. From professional reviews to consumer reviews here on Amazon, I do my best to soak it all in. With that being said, in my experience I've never been disappointed with something I've bought that I've done extensive research on...

And that holds true with the Vizio VF550M.

I bought my set at Costco during the Thanksgiving Weekend Sale. One of the first things I noticed right out of the box was how big it really was. I upgraded from a 46" LCD and the size was noticeably (and awesomely) huger. Yes... huger. When I saw the VF550M display at Costco it just didn't look that big because it was set next to other 50-60 inch sets and in the middle of a huge warehouse. However, while setting it up I realized it was the perfect size for the further viewing distance in our family room. The set-up was easy enough. I mounted the tv with the VideoSecu Adjustable Tilt TV Wall Mount (bought on Amazon) which I was very pleased with. We ran the cables through the wall to my devices to hide them... and I must say, it looks beautiful mounted to a wall. I would definitely recommend mounting this set. I didn't care too much for the remote that came with the TV so I opted to upgrade to the Logitech Harmony 670 remote (also got on amazon).

The picture on this TV was just as good or better than any other HDTV I have ever seen. The black levels are great with the DCR feature. Blu-Ray looks amazing on the big screen. I will admit I jumped on the 120hz bandwagon and as of right now I couldn't be happier with it when it comes to watching sports- but thats all I use 120hz (or "Smooth Motion Effect") for.

PROS

-BIG

-Great 120hz feature for Sports

-Good out of the box sound

-5 HDMI ports!

-Stunning picture

CONS

-Don't care for the remote

 "Excellent TV" 2010-01-08
By M. Haley
I received the Vizio VF550M television from Amazon today and am very happy with my purchase. This is an excellent TV at a fair price. I waited for the price to come down and only paid 1,249.00. No tax and free shipping. It was delivered by Pilot Transport in perfect condition and unlike another reviewer I had no problems with Pilot. The delivery man was very friendly and professional. He brought the tv in to my house, unboxed it, inspected it and plugged it in to test it. It worked perfectly.

The VF550M is a huge screen, crystal clear on HD channels. I was surprised at how good the sound was. Most tv's have very poor sound. This tv's sound is not bad at all but I connected it to my sound system. Sounds great. I'm very happy with this tv.

I also have a 19" and a 32" Vizio both of which I am very happy with. The picture on all 3 are equal to or better than much more expensive brands. I highly recommend Vizio.

"Amazon has crappy customer disclosures" 2010-01-05
By Punky Laura (Van Nuys, CA)
I have been a faithful Amazon.com customer for almost 10+ years. I buy EVERYTHING I can through them. I just bought this TV. The shipping company they use for my area Pilot Transport (So Bay Area, CA) are incompetent and lacks in customer service. Without getting too detailed in the reason why I am disappointed -- NO WHERE in this product information, nor order information, does it display that a restocking fee and return shipment will be charged for this item if refused or returned. Due to the shipping companies lack of professionalism and communication we gave up (frustration) and said just return it and will go to Costco to buy it. Call Amazon they then tell me about the fees I will be charged! I am pissed that they expect me to review the "help" section of the website for these parameters prior to ordering such an item. After about a decade of using them, why now would I assume I would have to do so?

I am no longer going to order through Amazon, and will look for a different online vendor that has a more honest customer disclosure.

Buy from Amazon with caution.

"good value but know what you're getting before you buy!" 2009-12-28
By Kimmy in Valencia (Los Angeles, CA)
I also bought this at Costco... the value for the size is awesome! And considering that we live in such a disposable society (ie, this tv does NOT need to last 10-20 years, as previous tube tvs were expected to), I didn't want to invest heavily in something that probably is going to get replaced with a lighter, cheaper, better etc version in just a few years.

But with that said, I do not recommend this tv if you are a film buff. This tv is ideal for sports watchers, more than anything.

Yes, you can change the various settings but who wants to go through the menu each time they decide to go from channel to channel? My 32" Samsung and 32" Sharp shows all types of tv, including movies, really well.

But the Vizio will show movies without that "film look" so it looks like you're watching a Spanish soap opera. If you're thinking about getting this tv, just make sure you google "soap opera effect" so you know what you're getting.

Overall, this tv sits in the family room, which my husband uses mostly for watching sports or regular shows so it's not that big of a deal to me. But when I do want to watch a movie, I have to go through the menu to change everything. Even then, it's only minutely better... still not as good as my samsung or sharp.

These are the tradeoffs and overall, I'm pretty happy with it because it allowed us to fill a huge tv space in our built in entertainment wall for relatively cheap price. But I'm already thinking about replacing it in a few years when tvs continue to get better and cheaper.

Finally, a tv that doesn't blow you out of your chair when a commercial comes on! I have two (2) of these 55" Vizio tv"s and they are great. I replaced a Samsung LN 650A 52", Consumer Reports NO. 1 last year's ratings and Hitachi 55" plasma with Vizio tv's. I am more than satisfied with Vizio. Picture is great and so is the sound on Vizio. No more disruptive commercials!

 "Family Blu-ray fun" 2010-01-24
By Steven D. Johnson
We purchased our Vizio VBR100 direct from Amazon. We were surprised how quickly the Amazon store shipped. The set-up was rather simple. It was nice to have matching component with Vizio 32 inch LCD. We have the 720 resolution tv; not knowing Blue ray would shortly be part of our home entertainment system. We are already looking at 1080 resolution 37 or 42 LCD. Another Amazon purchase???

The pros of Blue Ray. Regular DVDs upgrade to TV resolution in our case 720. HDMI who invented this technology?? We only have two cables plugged into our TV. HDMI for HD Cable and HDMI cable for Blue ray player. We are also thinking about getting a dolby stereo with HDMI technology. Only three HDMI cables and a couple speaker wires? Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it??

Blue ray discs are great! We still need to try our BD live feature. I am now curious about updating the firmware. Vizio player picture quality? I have to be biased because I own a Vizio television.

The cons? The cons are few. Vizio needs to bring back its Vizio universal remote. I have to use a separate Vizio remote to change my HDMI selection on my Vizio TV. The setup noise. I almost had a melt down the first time I powered up the unit. I thought I had a broken player. No, its just plain noisy, during power up. Once you load the disc it purrs like a new born kitten. Start up time is slow when playing non-blue ray discs. Blue rays load up rather quickly.

Blue ray technology is going to remain hopefully a long time? The motion picture companies are slowly making new releases affordable. You can get a catalog selection of long time favorite list of Blue ray movies for the regular price of most regular dvds.

Closing statement: I have unplugged my long lived and still living dvd player from a competitive manufacture. I have a young family and a tight budget for diapers and formula. Vizio home entertainment, keeps a smile on dad's face.

 "Great Blu Ray Player" 2010-01-18
By Paul E. Seals (USA)
I bought this Blu Ray player when I purchased our VIZIO VF551XVT 55-Inch XVT because I guess I wanted the same brand of BR player as the TV.

Pro's: Great picture as good as more expensive players.

Looks Nice all touch panel front.

Has optical AND coaxial audio out.

Plays thru HDMI as well as the RCA out, only important if you plan on watching BR on more than one tv.

Middle: Remote is ok, not great not bad. as I said just ok.

Con's Noise. this player is a little noisy when you first turn it on. it make a loud hum for about 4sec. then all quite after that.

No net apps such as netflix (would be nice) pandora etc, if that's important to you then look somewhere else.

Other than a slight noise issue and the lack of internet apps, I can't fault this player for anything.

This player has an Excellent picture & great sound!

Well worth the money.

"Good player for the money" 2010-01-08
By B. Pinson (Cordova, TN)
Watch for sales. I purchased from amazon for $100.

Good product. The noise level when you are putting a new disc in or powering up is kind of loud but once you play the disk you don't hear it any more. It was a surprise to hear it at first but it wouldn't keep me from buying it if I had known before.

Easy to set up. The remote has a lot of keys that you don't need. I still don't understand DVD / BluRay remotes that have number keys on them. But it does have everything you do need and it's not hard to use.

What I also like is that if you have a Vizio TV the BluRay remote will also change the volume on the TV.

Overall good purchase and I feel it was a good value.

"Took a chance on a low-end Blue Ray Player." 2010-01-07
By Sean Patzer (Fairbanks, AK United States)
Having a PS3 as my primary Home Theater playback device, the wife and I decided that we wanted to update our dvd player and tube in our bedroom. We bought a Samsung 550 32 inch TV and found we had limited funds for a Blue Ray player. Went to the local Wal*Mart and found this little player on sale for $120.

The problems that I have with this player is that on initial movie load, it is LOUD. The player vibrates, shakes and rattles. After the initial load, the player calms down and plays the movie without interruption or vibrations. I have inspected the discs after playback and seen no scratches on CDs, DVDs or BD-Discs.

Would I recommend this player, yes with a the caveat of the load noise.

 "Not the best performer" 2009-12-18
By Jeffrey Morse (Oroville CA USA)
I bought one of this when they first came out early last fall from a large discount store. I was really impressed as I unboxed it - it looked very nice and had a nice "hefty" feel to the case (unlike so many other players). I hooked it up to a 37" Vizio 1080p TV. The Blu-Ray quality was decent - nothing to write home about though. While it was better than an upconverted DVD of course, it didn't have the crispness to the image that I was expecting. I ran about three recent movies through it and all had the same result - good enough, but not great. Then I tried upconverting standard DVDs. That's where it really fell down. The image quality was much worse than my upconverting DVD player. No depth, fuzzy, stuttering in fast motion. Other disappointments were the weak sound quality with both DVDs and Blu-Rays and a very short range for the remote. I literally had to be in front of the player to activate it. The DVD player or TV had no issue with the same angle. All in all a weak effort from Vizio (and it went back).

Black Friday I grabbed a Toshiba BDX-2000 from Amazon. It has more or less the same specs as the Vizio but its performance is like night and day better. Sharper Blu-Ray, better upconverting (still not as good as my DVD player though), much better sound and greater remote range. I thought maybe I was being too harsh on the Vizio, but after having the Tosh for a few weeks I can see that I wasn't.

 "great bedroom tv" 2010-01-19
By Eric Harnischfeger (Rochester, NY)
I purchased this television about a month ago from target and am very satisfied with it. While the on sale price of 279$ helped sway my decision I also sell these tv's everyday at my job and have never heard any complaints about them. To start I'm pretty sick of the whole bashing 720p thing...the fact is that on a tv this small 1080p really wouldn't be recognizable and the picture is just as good as on my old 40" Samsung 5 Series which to put it bluntly is amazing. As for the viewing angle complaints from many other reviews all I have to say is that I have only noticed slight blacking out of the picture when you're viewing the television from above or below it and it really isn't that noticeable. Beyond that my only other complaints are the giant and quite basic remote and the so-so sound from the speakers but for the cost I can deal. I would recommend this tv to anyone looking for a good bedroom tv that would not be viewing it from either above or below and who doesn't mind mediocre sound quality.

TV completely died after only 6 months. Vizio sent out a repair tech who was unsuccessful at repairing the TV. Once the repair tech determined it was not fixable. They came up with a great solution....not. Vizio was going to mail me a box (CA to MN). Once I recieve the box and I am to put the broken TV in the box and mail it back to the CA warehouse. Once they receive the box with the broken TV then they will mail me a different REFERBISHED TV to replace it. Timeline...11/13 this started. Today is 12/17 and I still do not have the REFERBISHED TV in my possession. WHAT A JOKE! Spend the extra couple hundred for a Sony or trusted brand.

Worst product I have ever made a purchase on. More importany was the horrible customer service. It's one thing if your product goes faulty....completely another when you get horrible service with it. I have been telling everyone I know not to buy VIZIO.

 "Hoped for better." 2010-01-19
By M. Ford (Huntsville, AL United States)
I have had this TV for less than a week. It is going back to the place of purchase.

The first thing I noticed was the sound. It is very tinny, straight from the integrated speakers and from auxiliary speakers hooked up through the headphone jack (needed this because my receiver's speakers just blew out). No adjustments I

made using the pop up menu made it sound any better. The available adjustments are

limited.

I don't know if I picked out a defective one or if they are all like this but the color adjustments are off. I get a range of too much yellow to too deep reds. It changes according the color of the picture being displayed. It also looks washed out like there is a filter in front of it. This seems odd because the too deep color saturation. Adjusting the color does not help.

The remote it too narrow. The buttons too small. It has to be pointed close and directly at the sensor. The manual described a wider angle to be able to use the remote.

It is thin and sleek. But too reflective. There is just too much glare from

lights in the room. While it is turned off it does make a very nice mirror.

 "Great TV!" 2010-01-17
By Fabian Franco (Lawndale, Ca USA)
I purchased this TV because my previous monitor went to monitor heaven after 2 years of abuse. But this TV is absolutely AMAZING! It's amazingly thin, it has GREAT picture quality, the glare is a bit of an issue but I've noticed that you have to enable the "auto brightness adjusting" feature and it will automatically comensate for the extra lighting by increasing the brightness, another flaw that I've noticed is that, sence I'm using this as my computer monitor, that whenever I get close to the bottom left corner the menu pops up, so everytime I try to press esc on my keyboard the menu pops up and I have to wait till it goes away to see my start menu. The SRS HD Surround is on by default, if you're only doing stereo it sounds like crap untill you disable it, also the SRS TruVolume is DISABLED by default, this should be enabled because it does make it sound alot better, and it removes that "tinny" sound. The remote does have a very narrow window and has to be pointed almost directly at the sensor for it to pick up. And I have not experienced the "long" start up times with the Vizio splash screen. Overall I would rate this TV very highly, it's a great buy great for small rooms and the edge to edge glass is a very nice asthetic feature, this TV is BEAUTIFUL and the display is BEAUTIFUL as well... I hope this encourages you to buy this! You won't regret it!

 "Big Disappointment" 2010-01-16
By SeerMagic
Being a fan of Vizio TVs and on the market for a small tv, I was very excited to pick up the new LED LCD Razor. Just about everything with this tv disappointed.

By far the worse thing about this tv is how reflective it is. I have never owned or seen a TV this reflective. If you are gonna be using this tv in an area with any lights around, find something else. Anytime something dark is on the screen, you can't see anything but reflection. It is really awful.

Next was the remote and the delay when doing anything with it. Again, the worse I've ever experienced with a tv. turning channels and going through the tv menus was slow and sluggish.

Speakers are awful and require turning off and on the tv. This happened about every hour, the speakers would sound like they are blown. Yet turning the tv off then back on would fix the problem.... for about an hour. They are way to loud, I was using a ps3 to watch bluray, and I had to turn the sound at 6/100. I thought maybe these problems where just an unlucky defective tv, but after searching the internet about it this problem is quite common.

Last but not least, the picture. Was it decent, yes. Was it LED 1080p good, no. My vizio 26 inch looks much better. I was expecting the picture to be one of the best I've ever seen on a small tv. It isn't. Colors don't really pop, the black & whites were pretty good though.

Overall I can't recommend this tv to anyone. Horrible reflection and speakers. and picture is solid, but I've seen better at TV's this small. I've taken this tv back and ordered me a Samsung SyncMaster P2370HD. Which gets great reviews for it's picture.

 "Ouch! Edge-lit LED backlighting " 2010-01-16
By tipstir (Connecticut, USA)
Revised the review, returned the item back to Costco because it suffers from back-light bleeding both the left and right edges. This set also utilize edge-lit LED backlighting, as opposed to local-dimming technology. Most of the image quality advantages often associated with LED backlighting--like deep blacks--are only available on local-dimming displays, so we don't expect radically better performance than standard (CCFL-backlit) LCD displays. So in other words not much you can do with deeper blacks. My issue was with even the logo was washed out. VIZIO was the first for me and the last. I ended up with DYNEX DX-L24-10A even though this isn't a LED the screen is 24" to 24" (25")and uses less power. There is more inputs and suppose to have Ethernet connection. The panel not matted you can almost see yourself in there but with that though the image is deeper in black and contrast is right on par.
